Międzynarodowy Dzień Animacji

W tym roku mija 20 lat od ustanowienia przez Międzynarodowe Stowarzyszenie Twórców Filmu Animowanego (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation – ASIFA) Międzynarodowego Dnia Animacji. Idea tego globalnego święta zrodziła się na początku XXI wieku dla upamiętnienia pierwszego publicznego pokazu animacji Theatre Optique Emile’a Reynauda, który odbył się 28 października 1892 roku w Grevin Museum w Paryżu. Powszechnie uznaje się to wydarzenie za symboliczny początek historii animacji, a raczej nowożytnej historii animacji. Od 2002 roku MDA jest flagowym wydarzeniem organizowanym na całym świecie przez ASIFA, we współpracy z licznymi organizacjami i festiwalami np. z Festiwalem O!PLA.

Początkowo narodowe programy przygotowywane były przez lokalnych przedstawicieli ASIFA. Od mniej więcej 2020 roku proces ten uległ zmianie i obecnie przypomina on format festiwalowy z call for entries, procesem selekcyjnym i w efekcie kuratorskimi programami przygotowywanimi przez lokalnych organizatorów MDA.

Kuratorem programu jest Piotr Kardas (O!PLA).

This year marks 20 years since the Association Internationale du Film d’Animation – ASIFA established the International Animation Day. The idea of this global celebration was born at the beginning of the 21st century to commemorate the first public animation show of Emile Reynaud’s Theater Optique, which took place on October 28, 1892 at the Grevin Museum in Paris. This event is widely recognized as the symbolic beginning of the history of animation, or rather the modern history of animation. Since 2002, IAD has been a flagship event organized around the world by ASIFA, in cooperation with numerous organizations and festivals, such as the O!PLA Animation Festival.

Initially, national programs were prepared by national ASIFA representatives. From around 2020, this process has changed and now resembles a festival format with call for entries, a selection process and, as a result, curatorial programs prepared by local IAD organizers.

Little Nemo / Mały Nemo (USA 1911, 06:15), Winsor McCay

Jeden z pierwszych filmów animowanych w historii, będący adaptacją komiksowego paska z gazety New York Herald autorstwa samego McCay’a. Film w znacznej mierze wypełniają sceny żywego planu (co było typowe dla pierwszych animacji, zwłaszcza w USA), podczas których twórca zakłada się z kolegami, że stworzy ruchomy rysunek, a następnie przystępuje do pracy. Sama animacja pojawia się na koniec.

One of the first animated films in history, being an adaptation of the comic strip from the New York Herald newspaper by McCay himself. The film is largely filled with live-action scenes (which was typical for the first animations, especially in the US), during which the artist bets with his friends that he will create a moving image and then he starts working. The animation itself appears at the end.

Młoda Zsuzsi i jej starszy brat Iván zostali oddzieleni od rodziców i zmuszeni do wkroczenia do getta w Budapeszcie. Był 3 grudnia 1944 roku. Żyli codzienną brutalnością i zniszczeniem wszystkiego, co im drogie. To doświadczenie było decydującym momentem w życiu Zsuzsi, rozpoznaniem kolektywnej siły, która mogła ich uratować lub położyć kres temu wszystkiemu.
Animacja jest inspirowana świadectwem ocalałej z Holokaustu dr Zsuzsanny Ozsváth, która opowiada o swoim doświadczeniu w nagranym wywiadzie dla Fundacji Shoah w 1996 roku.

Young Zsuzsi and her older brother Iván were separated from their parents and forced to march into a ghetto in Budapest. It was the 3rd of December, 1944. They lived the brutality and destruction of everything they hold dear. That experience was a defining moment in Zsuzsi’s life, recognizing the collective power that could save them or put an end to it all.

The animation is inspired by the testimony of Holocaust Survivor Dr. Zsuzsanna Ozsváth, narrating her experience in a recorded interview for the Shoah Foundation in 1996.
